Fabrication of props and models for animated films, collections and exhibitions
With a wealth of skills and experience fabricating for film and television as well as collections and exhibitions, we understand the unique demands of working in these fields. We work closely with clients, production managers and animators to create highly refined final products, using materials suitable for film and television lighting, and appropriate engineering techniques.
As well as making works for exhibitions and private collections, our props and models can also be seen in major productions including children's animation Engie Benjy by Cosgrove Hall and Chicken Run by Aardman Animations.
Chicken Run, 2000. Pie Machine, Aardman Animations
Mark was lead engineer on the Pie Machine in the hugely successful, feature-length animated film, Chicken Run. As part of a team, we made all the moving parts to enable it to function correctly during its dramatic appearance in the film.
Hamilton Mattress, 2001. Harvest Films
We made a range of props for this animated film including the pool table, Caterpillar’s house, a crocodile chaise-longue, and a globe-shaped drinks cabinet.
Engie Benjy, 2002
We made props for the 12 episode stop-motion, pre-school television series, including: an inflatable dinghy; animated fish jumping into water; a field of ice lollies growing; boxes of sandwiches; and a chocolate Easter egg spaceship.
Life-size character models, 2006. Aardman Animations
We cast life-size Aardman character models for Ghibli Museum, Japan, including Gromit, Shawn the Sheep, and Morph.
Bristol Fighter Car Model, 2021. Bristol Owners Heritage Trust
1:4 scale model, glass-fiber cast of a 200mph Bristol Fighter car, to enable the client to create moulds for exhibitions and collections.
Stefan Cembrowicz of Bristol Owners Heritage Trust shares the story behind the commission:
“Built-in Patchway between 2004 and 2011, only ten Bristol Fighters were ever completed, though several others remain unfinished. Bristol cars were originally built in the Bristol Aeroplane Company works at Filton from 1946 using aero-engineering technology and artisan skills.”
“When the works closed in 2020 the Bristol Owners Heritage Trust was able to rescue the original Bristol Cars Ltd mould and commissioned Plenderleith Scantlebury to make a one-off highly finished cast so we are able to create moulds for exhibitions and collections.” To find out more, visit Bristol Owners Heritage Trust.
